Welcome to Ultraman UK 2012!

Qualifier for the Ultraman World Championships
on the Big Island of Hawaii

3-day, 514.9 kilometer (320 mile) Ultra-endurance Event

Ultraman UK entry is limited to 35 solo participants and 5 relay teams (made up of either 2 or 3 people) and is by invitation only. For more info, see Qualification for Entry or click the Ultraman UK Application button above.

Race Overview

The UK event is based on the Ultraman Canada event founded in 1993, which follows the format of the original Ultraman established in Kona, Hawaii in 1983.  Ultraman UK covers part of the region of Bala Lake – or Llyn Tegid as it is known in Welsh – which is in the town of Bala in Gwynedd County, and Betws-y-Coed in Conwy County, Cymru, UK.

Saturday - Stage 1 – 10.0 km (6.2 mile) out and back swim. Up the right side of Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid) 5 km (3 miles), around a marker, and back to the same start point (as you look at the lake from Bala town end).

The swim is immediately followed by a one-loop (to the west) 144.8 km (90.0 mile) bike ride beginning & finishing Day 1 in Betws-y-Coed in Conwy County.

 Sunday - Stage 2 – one-loop (to the south) 275.8 km (171.4 mile) bike ride beginning & finishing Day 2 in Betws-y-Coed in Conwy County.

Monday - Stage 3 – Mt. Snowdon is central to the 84.3 km (52.4 mile) double-marathon run course. Day 3 begins & ends in Betws-y-Coed in Conwy County.

Time Limits - Swim (Stage 1) must be completed in 6 hours plus bike in 12 hours total, bike (Stage 2) in 12 hours, run (Stage 3) in 12 hours. All athletes will be timed with chip timing.

Participants – Participants are expected from around the world as this is an international event. Each must be accompanied by an individual support team of at least two persons over the entire course.

Individual resources: mental, physical and spiritual, are shared in an atmosphere where everyone can be a winner and the pursuit of human excellence is the fundamental rule of the road.
